TRIGANCE

Trigance is located in the Regional Natural Park of Verdon, his appearance is characteristic of a village in Haute Provence. Perched high on a promontory, overcoming the Valley of Jabron, a tributary river of the Verdon joined near the place called" Carajuan Bridge". Trigance is located on the scenic route along the left bank of the spectacular Gorges of High Verdon.

Trigance and its surroundings have kept an authentic look and offer unspoilt countryside, the town did not allow the construction of houses around the village. The view is splendid Jabron Valley.

The village is charming, alleys and stairs lined with thick walls of old stone houses. Trigance kept a medieval gate, the belfry of a wrought iron campanile clock rates the village life. The bell tower of the parish church of Saint-Michel is topped with glazed roof tiles. The saint patron of the village is St. Roch, under whose protection the trigançais were placed during the plague of 1629. A chapel dedicated to him outside the village.

The beautifully restored medieval castle overlooks the village. The castle of Trigance depended on the Abbey of Saint-Victor in Marseille in the 9th century when we find for the first track record. It was the property of the lords of Trigance, feudal families of Provence: the Raimondis the 14th century, the 16th century Demandolx and Valbelles until the Revolution. During the Revolution the population celebrates the abolition of aristocratic privileges by plundering the castle already abandoned by its owners. It was used as stone career for the houses of the village. In the 60's Mr. and Mrs. Harman, a couple of merchants from Luc en Provence undertake to restore the ruins of the castle, task pursued by the Thomas family since 1970. The castle rises from the ruins, it is nowadays a luxury hotel and a popular restaurant. It is not open to public visits
