Méthamis is a picturesque village, perched on a rocky outcrop at the edge of the Vaucluse plateau, overlooking the edge of Gorges de la Nesque. Less known than its neighbors Venasque or Gordes, Methamis not care less all the charm of villages of Provence, and lower tourist numbers is a guarantee of peace for its inhabitants and vacationers.
At the top of the village, the church dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Paul has an unusually imposing entrance: a double staircase gives access to a courtyard where the view over the plain of Comtat is splendid.
The village was once protected by ramparts of which remain only fragments, the only entrance was a drawbridge over a ditch dug in the rock. The gap is filled and the bridge is gone. In plain grow cherry and vines, the main economic activity of the common, on which standby the nearby Mont Ventoux.
